Beef ID
March 12, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am
SATURDAY, March 12, 2016
9:00 a.m. – 11:00 am
4-H Show Arena, Hancock County 4-H Fairgrounds, Greenfield, IN
The following identification is required for beef animals to be eligible to exhibit at the Hancock County 4-H Fair and/or the Indiana State Fair.
Steers (Beef and Dairy) – 840-RFID and a 5 digit county tag
Commercial Heifers – 840-RFID and a 5 digit county tag
Registered Heifers – 840-RFID tag and tattoo
If you already have a RFID tag in your animal’s ear, you will use that RFID number to enroll your animal online.
Premise ID #’s are needed for online enrollment. If you do not have a premise ID #, please go online to: https://secure.in.gov/boah/2642.htm to obtain a number. RFID tags for your registered purebred heifers can be obtained through your veterinarian or the State Board of Animal Health (BOAH). You do not need to bring registered heifers on March 12, unless you need them to be tagged with an RFID tag. We will have RFID tags and the county 5 digit tags available at Beef ID Day.
It is the 4-Hers responsibility to make sure that all tag numbers are correctly entered online. A beef enrollment worksheet is enclosed for you to use to record your numbers. Double and triple check so that an error is not discovered when you arrive at the county/state fair and you are not allowed to exhibit your animal.
ENROLLMENT PROCEDURES: Please refer to the enclosed instruction sheet on how to enroll your beef animals online in the 4-H data system. Online enrollment must be completed by the following dates in order for you to exhibit at the Hancock County Fair and/or the Indiana State Fair.
Beef and Dairy Steers must be entered into 4H Online by April 1.
Beef Heifers must be entered into 4H Online by May 15th.
Registration papers will be checked on all purebred steers and heifers at the County and State Fairs. If you plan to show a heifer or a steer at the Indiana State Fair, make sure that he/she meets the requirements for purebred registered classes for the State Fair.
Completing 4-H Animal ID online is not the equivalent of entering 4-H Animal Shows at the Indiana State Fair. The state fair entry process along with information regarding deadlines, policies, and procedures will be available at http://www.indianastatefair.com
Below are the rules for the Hancock County Born and Raised Class. Paperwork for the Hancock County Born and Raised classes must be turned in to our office by May 15.
If you know of someone that plans to enroll in the Beef or Dairy Steer project, that was not enrolled last year, please ask them to give me a call so we can get them on our mailing list.
If you need assistance with entering your animal in the 4-H online system, please let us help you before 4:00 pm on April 1 for steers or before 4:00 pm on May 15 for heifers.
